This post is about gifts for new moms for every single occasion there is.
Oftentimes we find ourselves going online and searching for “gifts for mom,” many of which are very generic and are covered with the word “Mommy.”
I personally never resonated with items of that sort, so in this gift guide for new moms, you will find gifts that are practical, useful, and will, for sure, be appreciated!
When I gave birth to my daughter, it seemed like I was just mom now. There was nothing else to me. With day in and day out chores of taking care of the household and baby, it seemed like my identity was reduced to just one accomplishment of mine.
Not only that, but that was followed by doctor appointments for my newborn where I was constantly referred to my new title, “Mom,” and no longer by my name.
This is where women can begin to feel like they are losing their identity, after all, “mom” is a lifelong job.
By gifting the women in your life that are moms gifts that are not only for the baby, I am confident that she will be appreciative of the gesture of including her in the gift-giving occasion!
Gifts for New Moms for Every Occasion
Regardless of when the new mom or expecting mom had their child, you will be able to find something for her in this list.
Specially during this time as they are newly postpartum, a new mom can easily feel overwhelmed, neglect herself, and begin losing her identity.
Gifting a woman who is a mom a gift right after she recently became a mom is such a thoughtful gesture that shows her that you care about her and she is allowed to still spoil herself. (I say this as someone who suffered from mom guilt when I bought things for myself, after all, what I spent on myself, could’ve been used to buy something else for my daughter.)
Should You Buy a Present for Baby As Well?
Short answer, no! For many women, from the moment they become pregnant, they will begin receiving gifts for the baby from excited family members. There is nothing wrong with that, but if the occasion is celebrating the mom, please DO NOT buy something for the baby instead.
If you saw the cutest baby onesies at Target and couldn’t resist the urge to buy it, then I suggest adding that gift as an add-on to the main gift, which is a gift specifically curated for mom herself.
When I was 4 months postpartum, I asked one of my close friends where she bought her daughter’s pajamas. I was curious because I needed to get more and my daughter was outgrowing hers. For Christmas, she dropped off a present for me and in there, was a pair of pajamas for my daughter that I was asking her about. I personally really appreciated that gesture because it showed me that she remembered what we spoke about and also saved me a trip to the store to look for them.
With that being said, there are times when ADDING a little gift for baby is appropriate. BIG emphasis on a LITTLE gift for baby. You don’t want your add-on gift for baby to be bigger than the one for mama.

Gifts for Expecting Moms That Aren’t For The Baby
What to Expect When You’re Expecting Book
What to Expect When You’re Expecting is a classic must-read book for any expecting parent.
What to Expect The First Year Book
This book goes hand-in-hand with the book above. After mom learns about her pregnancy as she gets closer to her due date, she can begin reading about what to expect when their little bundle of joy comes home.
During the first year there is truly so much going on with baby and so many unknowns as well, so with this book, it is the goal to help mom-to-be have some piece of mind and know what to expect.
Pregnancy Journal
The First-Time Mom’s Pregnancy Journal is a great way to start a pregnancy journal. This journal includes monthly checklists mom can look forward to completing, activities, and journal prompts.
Pregnancy Growth Stickers
Pregnancy growth stickers are perfect when mom wants to document their whole pregnancy. These stickers will look perfect alongside mom in her baby bump pictures!
Diaper Bag
If you want to go for a bigger gift for mom, consider gifting her a diaper bag. Even if she already has one, think about it, women use different bags for different purposes and/or events. Diaper bags are no different!
Compression Socks
I know, the thought it gifting compression socks may not be it. BUT! when women are pregnant, and after delivery, their feet really swell up! I recommend compression socks for this reason. From experience, this would’ve been such a nice gift – my feet were swollen the whole third trimester and 1-2 weeks postpartum as well!
Lila Labor Gown
I can guarantee you that this is something an expecting mom does not have! With everything mom-to-be has going on, from creating the baby registry, to preparing their body for birth, they may not have even thought about what they’ll wear during their birth.
I love this labor gown! I bought a similar one closer to my budget but this is the one I wished I could’ve gotten.
This labor gown is specifically designed for labor and has so so many components. Head over to their website at Lila if you want to learn more about all the features this labor gown has.
Pregnancy Pillow
Despite their name, pregnancy pillows are good to use any time in a person’s life. Pregnancy pillows, in my opinion, are totally gender neutral, and help people sleep more comfortably.
While they can be a little pricey, they are still a MUST for any pregnant and future mom.
Bump Boxes Subscription
Bump Boxes is subscription-based and are monthly gifts for future mom. You can buy a 6- 9- or 12-month subscription and each month, mom will receive a box full of goodies inside that will be both for her and baby. This also allows for mom to try different products to find what works best for her and her family.
Silicone Ring
With how much women swell during pregnancy, specially during the third trimester, consider gifting mom-to-be a silicone ring that she can use during pregnancy.
As bonus, she can continue wearing the silicone ring postpartum while her swelling goes down!
Postpartum Recovery Gift Basket
I love the thought of postpartum recovery gift basket. You can truly get creative with it and add little extra add-ons, such as mom’s favorite candy.
Consider including the following in the Postpartum Recovery Gift Basket:
- Peri bottle
- Organic cotton maxi pads
- Witch Hazel and/or TUCKS Cooling Pads
- Period underwear or postpartum underwear
- Postnatal supplements
- Non-slip socks
- Breast Therapy Packs
- Reusable nursing pads
- Nursing bra or shirt
- Lactation snacks and/or tea
- Nipple butter
Items on this gift basket are items that mom will most likely have to buy herself. I encountered when making my baby registry that I did not feel comfortable adding all these items to the baby registry because I felt that no one would get them for me, and I felt embarrassed.
This is yet another gift for new moms that many people won’t do and/or consider gifting.

Sitz Bath Supplies
A sitz bath has shown to aid in postpartum recovery. This perineal care and cleansing is something that many expecting moms are unaware of (I know I was!) With taking care of a newborn, many women want to immediately go back to their old routine and/or body. This tool can help aid her in her recovery so she can feel better, even slightly faster.
Nursing Pillow
To this day, at two years postpartum, we still use our breastfeeding pillow. Now we use it more as a toy and/or regular pillow, but we still use it! We received a Bobby nursing pillow during our baby shower and we loved it when chestfeeding.
I had not done much research on nursing pillows, but it seems like people generally like My Breast Friend nursing pillow slightly more than Boppy.
Bath Kneeler and Elbow Pad
I really contemplated not getting the bath kneeler and elbow pad for myself, but when I tell you just how much of a life-saver this item has been for my nearly 30-year-old-knees.
Though, this item is useful for anyone, regardless of their age. Specially as kids get older, they begin wanting longer and longer baths!
Birthday Gifts for New Moms
Pajama Set
Consider gifting the new mom in your life some comfy pajama sets. The Kyte Baby pajama sets are bamboo and guaranteed to be comfortable and the perfect loungewear!
Water Bottle
One thing that I never considered as a new mom was just how HARD it is to drink water.
A functional water bottle, specially for the breastfeeding new mom, will be the perfect gift when mom wants and needs to increase their water intake.
Sound Machine
Help mom relax a little by getting them a sound machine. AND if baby sleeps in the same room as mom, this will be a two-in-one gift that will also benefit baby, and may even help them sleep for longer period of time at night.
Journal
As mom gets more and more busy the bigger the baby gets, get mom a Leuchttrum1917 notebook. This journal was specifically designed for people who have many many things in their mind and need a system that helps them organize their many thoughts.
It was not until I used this journal, that I felt like I could properly organize my thoughts in a piece of paper. 10/10 recommend! (And while you’re at it, get one for yourself as well!)
Airpods
Through late feedings and long periods of attempting to put baby to sleep, it is quite easy to feel bored after repeating the same routine time and time again. This is where Airpods come in to help ease the repetitive routine and add something different. They can listen to a podcast or just their favorite music to better their mood.
Christmas Gifts for New Moms
Audible Plus Membership
If the budget allows, consider combining an Audible Plus Membership with the Airpods above for a gift that will keep on giving!
Instacart Gift Card
Help mom out with, basically, free groceries, by gifting them an Instacart Gift Card. As new mom is busy with baby, having their groceries delivered will be life-saving when the weather doesn’t permit or when they are just not in the mood or mental state to leave the house.
Gourmet Coffee Sampler
Whether mom is breastfeeding or not, they can still enjoy coffee. And if she is an avid coffee drinker, then a gourmet coffee sampler will be the perfect Christmas gift for her!
Mother’s Days Gifts for New Moms
Baby Birth Stats Bracelet
While some people get their baby’s date of birth or name tattooed, this is another variation of this, imo.
A baby stats bracelet is perfect for the sentimental mom that wants to take something of their little newborn baby anywhere she goes.
Birthstone Bangle
As a Mother’s Day gift, give the sentimental and fashionable mom a birthstone bangle to take a piece of their baby wherever she goes. This bangle is customizable and can be adjusted to their style and likes.
Acrylic Picture Frame
With the rise of minimalism, an acrylic picture frame with a beautiful picture of their newborn baby will make a beautiful Mother’s Day gift for the new mom.
First Year Keepsake Photo Album
This gifts can be a little tricky for someone other than dad to plan out, but not impossible! A first year keepsake photo album is absolutely beautiful and guaranteed to make a new mom teary eyed when she sees how much their little one has grown.
I really recommend, if you are gifting this gift, to get help from dad and/or other family member to fill it up with as many pictures as possible. Mom can then go back and fill out any remainder information and/or pages. Remember: we want these gifts for new moms to be as effort-free as possible.
Baby Handprint and Footprint Kit
A handprint and footprint kit is something that, unfortunately, you may not be able to gift completed. Opt for printing out the main picture and gifting the keepsake frame with baby’s picture already included so mom just has to worry about making the handprint and footprint.
Valentine Day Gifts for New Moms
UberEats Gift Card
An UberEats Gift Card is perfect for a busy new mom that doesn’t have enough time and/or energy to cook for herself and/or family.
Family Acrylic Photo Block
With the rise of minimalism, an acrylic picture frame with a beautiful family picture will make a perfect Valentine Day gift for the new mom.
Luxury Gifts for New Moms
Mommy Jewelry
This Count Your Blessing diamond bangle is absolutely gorgeous for a new mom. As they have gained a new blessing into their lives with the birth of their child.
SNOO Bassinet
Even though the Snoo Bassinet is technically for the baby, it is also for the mother. The SNOO Bassinet is known for it’s high price tag and its ability to help babies sleep without their mother’s arms. This means that the SNOO bassinet helps moms regain their independence and time, something that is truly priceless!
Woven Wrap
A long woven wrap is such a great gift for moms with velcro babies. Woven wraps are perfect for chubby babies and allows for it to be customizable it to the liking of the new mom. You can customize the fabric, material, and even the design. Woven wraps are often handmade as well, which is why they can go high in price very quickly.

From the Happy Baby Carrier, to the Little Zen One Onbuhimo, all the way to the baby carriers from Artipoppe that are made of Organic Hemp or made from Cashmere and Silk, you are bound to find something that will fit the needs of the luxurious new mom.
E-Reader
The Amazon Kindle Scribe has the low brightness feature that is essential for night feedings with baby. The paperwhite display and low weight of the Kindle Scribe makes it easy for mom to hold and use with baby present so it doesn’t disturb their peace.
Silk Sheets
Help mom get better sleep by getting her silk sheets. Silk is a natural fibre that offers a multitude of benefits, such repelling dust, mites, mold, it’s breathable, regulates temperature, tames bedhead, minimizes frizz, and prevents sleep wrinkles, and much more!
Night Nurse
This gift is truly the most luxurious gift you can give a new mom. A night nurse is a professional that takes care of newborn babies at night while mom sleeps. A night nurse helps with all night feedings, providing mom a good night’s sleep.
Self Care Gifts for New Moms
Gift Card for a Massage Parlor
After the trauma that the body endures through pregnancy and childbirth, regardless of whether it was a hard pregnancy/birth or not, a gift card to a massage parlor for a relaxing day is something every mom will appreciate.
As women become moms, we tend to neglect ourselves and keep pouring onto other’s cups. Show the new mom in your life that you want her to prioritize herself and her self-care by getting her a gift card for a spa day.
Essential Oil Diffuser
A good essential oil diffuser for a aromatherapy for a new mom creates the ambience of a spa at home. For the busy mom or the mom that doesn’t like leaving their newborn baby with others, getting her an essential oil diffuser helps her relax at home.
As a plus, baby will also benefit from this gift. Depending on which essential oil is used, they can help baby with congestion, sleep, and in many other ways.
Essential Oils
The gift of essential oils is a gift that just keep giving! Essential oils can be used with an essential oil diffuser, but they can also have so many other uses as well. If mom uses wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets, you can sprinkle some essential oil drops into them so that the clothes come out smelling nice. Essential oils can also be used in homemade cleaning solutions.
Useful Gifts for New Moms
Grocery Cart Cover/Sling
For busy moms that need to take baby to the grocery store, a grocery cart sling and/or cover is essential to keep baby protected from germs and from them putting their mouth all over the cart. (Yup, we’ve been there, just constantly stopping my daughter from wanting to lick the cart…)
Insulated Coffee Mug
While this gift may seem generic and is often recommended, don’t skip it! There’s a reason it’s so popular.
Imagine a cold winter morning and mom is tired. She makes a hot cup of coffee and then baby start crying. With baby’s needs, the hot cup of coffee comes second. And by the time she gets to her coffee, it’s no longer hot, and microwaving your coffee gets old very quickly, so I’ve learned.
This practical gift for new moms will allow her to keep enjoying her coffee without getting cold.
Postpartum Gifts for Moms
Comfy Slippers
Soft, fuzzy house slippers are an essential gift for the new moms because they are home often with the baby. I personally did not leave the house for about a month! With my healing, some complications, and snow outside, I stayed in my first month postpartum. House slippers became an everyday thing, specially during the winter!
Bamboo Pajama Set
Consider gifting the new mom in your life some comfy pajama sets. The Kyte Baby pajama sets are bamboo and guaranteed to be comfortable and the perfect loungewear!
Due to the stretchy material, these are perfect for every new mom because as you navigate postpartum and breastfeeding, women’s weight can fluctuate quite a bit.
Insulated Tea Infuser
As mom navigates postpartum, teas are a great way to aid in postpartum recovery. Considering gifting new mom an insulated tea infuser.
Read more on Fixing Hormonal Imbalance After Childbirth & Breastfeeding to learn more on what types of teas and why you’d want to include them in this gift to help Mom recover postpartum.
Tummy Control Leggings
Tummy control leggings are a must for every new mom, regardless of whether they had vaginal birth or a c-section. As baby is no longer in the womb, the body’s job is now to recover and that includes restoring organs where they used to be. Many women claim to feel “loose” after childbirth. This is where tummy control leggings come through.
Gifts for New Moms for Every Occasion
Now that you have chosen the perfect present for new moms, you can follow that up with a FREE gift.
Free gifts for new moms are gifts that may not cost a lot of money, but they can cost your time. This includes:
- Cooking a meal,
- Babysitting for an hour so she can nap,
- Doing the dishes,
- Doing a load of laundry,
- Washing baby bottles,
- Running the dishwasher,
- Tidying up the house,
- Going to pick up groceries.
While the items on this list of free gifts can be so simple, when you become a new mom, these chores just add to the mental load.
I cannot tell you the amount of times I got frustrated because I did NOT want to think of what to eat. I did NOT want to eat, but I knew I needed calories to produce milk.
In this example, something as simple as feeding myself was such a big chore I dreaded it the moment I felt hungry.
All this to say, new moms have experienced, especially single new moms and/or new moms without support, a very drastic life-changing event.
So when it comes to gift-giving, consider her likes and what she may find most useful at the time!
P.S. If you happen to know that New Mom is experiencing some hormonal imbalances, be sure to read this article on Fixing Hormonal Imbalance After Childbirth & Breastfeeding, to see how you can help her. Bonus points if you implement what you’ve learned into her gift!
