A nursing cart for baby and postpartum are becoming more and more popular, as moms look for ways to make their postpartum life slightly easier.
I was no different, and so I bought an inexpensive 3 tier metal utility cart when I was nesting and began prepping my nursing cart essentials!
I used this nursery cart for about 6 months. But it was truly most useful my first 2 months postpartum.
Due to complications that happened after birth, I basically lived in the living room for 2 months. I slept on the couch and had a baby bassinet with me to sleep with baby.
The couch was just much more comfortable to sit and sleep in and if I tried laying in bed, it resulted in more pain. For these reasons, I knew I made the right choice in already having my diaper cart organized before baby came.
In my newborn diaper cart, I included all nursery storage cart essentials that allowed me to heal, minimize my movements, and fully take care of a newborn with the convenience of everything being within arms’ reach.

Nursing Cart Essentials
A nursery storage cart is used by mom during her postpartum period to aid in her recovery and make things slightly more convenient after baby is born.
To have your own nursery storage cart, you will need a 3 tier metal utility cart. You can get one of whichever color you want, but keep in mind that this cart will be something that as months go by, you will need less and less and will therefore, either sell it, or repurpose it.
What Benefits to a Nursing Cart
I strongly recommend getting a baby rolling cart. This cart provides convenience to mom. That’s what it truly is – something that will help mom/parents through the postpartum period.
This is extremely helpful for parents that have their baby’s nursery in the second floor. By creating and placing this cart in the first floor, most probably in the living room, it allows for mom to not have to go to the second floor for her newborn essentials.
The newborn baby cart can also be helpful for moms, like me, who struggled postpartum with physically healing and unable to walk much.

Nursery Storage Cart Essentials
Below I have separated the storage cart essentials into 5 different categories, depending on whether you will breastfeeding or not.
Nursery Storage Cart Essentials: For Baby
Items that should be included for baby are items that are used often and needed on a daily basis.
Include the following items for baby in your nursery rolling cart:
- Diapers
- Baby wipes
- Butt rash cream
- Moisturizer
- Extra outfits (onesies or pajamas)
- Burp cloths
- Nasal aspirator
- Bibs
- Supplements/Medication, if any
- Extra pacifiers, if any
Nursery Storage Cart Essentials: For Mom
Items that should be included for mom are items that are used often and needed on a daily basis.
Include the following items for mom in your nursery rolling cart:
- Water bottle
- Snacks
- Post-natal vitamins and/or any other medications
- Headphones

Nursery Storage Cart Essentials: For Breastfeeding
Items that should be included if you or mom will be breastfeeding are items that are used often and needed on a daily basis.
Include the following items if you or mom will be breastfeeding in your nursery rolling cart:
- Nipple cream
- Vitamin D drops for baby
- Lactation supplements for mom as seen in Best Lactation Supplements to Increase Milk Supply
- More snacks for mom
- Electric and/or manual breast pump
- Extra parts for your breast pump
- Nursing pads
- Lactation massager

Nursery Storage Cart Essentials: For Formula-Feeding
Items that should be included if you or mom will be formula-feeding are items that are used often and needed on a daily basis.
Include the following items if you or mom will be formula-feeding in your nursery rolling cart:
- Extra formula
- Thermos/bottle warmer
- Baby bottles
- Burp clothes
Nursery Storage Cart Essentials: Miscellaneous
Items that should be included that are miscellaneous are items that are used often and needed on a daily basis.
Include the following items that are miscellaneous in your nursery rolling cart:
- Hand sanitizer
- Disinfecting wipes
- High contrast baby books/toys
- Baby toys
- Books, for mom if needed
- Extra cell phone charger

How to Organize Your Nursery Storage Cart Essentials
I hate that I don’t have pictures to show how my breastfeeding cart looked like, but I do know that I had a method to it that made it extremely convenient for me, and even to others when they would take care of my daughter.
Top Tier: For the top tier, I included mostly diapers, baby wipes, and burp cloths. Newborn babies get their diapers changed about every 2 hours, so about 12 times a day. So for me, it made sense to have the diapers be the MOST accessible item in the cart.
Because I did not need to fill the top tier with ALL diapers and wipes, I created a spot for my water bottle and a thermos with warm water when I needed to put my daughter’s baby bottle to warm.
Middle Tier: In the middle tier, I added small containers to divide the items. In this tier is where all the small items go, such as: supplements, earphones, butt rash creams, moisturizer, snacks, bibs, and pacifiers.
Lowest Tier: The lowest tier of my newborn rolling cart included my breastfeeding and miscellaneous items. The biggest item here was my breast pump, Spectra S1.
Next to the Spectra S1, were some replacement parts for the pump, nipple cream, and high contrast baby toys for my daughter to play with during her wake windows.
